Job summary

Southland Industries in Schertz, Texas is currently seeking a lead engineer to evaluate, design, and engineer projects and systems to specification on design/build efforts and rehabilitation initiatives.

You will provide ongoing technical guidance, mentor junior engineers, and perform complex calculations for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection. Strong communication and advanced computer skills are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • PE License required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable systems design (fire suppression, HVAC, plumbing).
  • Ability to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including CADD and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and engineer projects and systems to specification on design/build and rehab efforts.
  • Perform complex calculations, drawings and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, or other systems.
  • Develop standards, methods, and procedures for reviewing and inspecting designs.
  • Determine methods and solutions for complex engineering problems and identify efficient solutions.
  • Direct the workflow of less-experienced engineers and mentor on designs and technical issues.
  • Write technical narratives in response to RFIs.

Job description

Lead, evaluate, design, and engineer projects and systems to specification on projects ranging from new design/build to rehabilitation of existing facilities and systems. Provide ongoing technical guidance and engineering issue resolution as needed.

  • Performs complex calculations, drawings and specifications related to HVAC, plumbing, fire protection or other systems
  • Performs complex calculations for a project, such as heating/cooling loads, equipment selection and sizing, friction loss calculations, hydraulic calculations, etc.
  • Develops standards, methods, processes and procedures for reviewing, evaluating and inspecting designs.
  • Determines methods and solutions for complex engineering problems and identify the most efficient and acceptable solution.
  • Directs the workflow of less-experienced engineers on assigned projects. Mentors and provides guidance on designs and technical issues.
  • Writes technical narratives in response to RFIs.
