Job summary

MSI Defense Solutions in Mooresville, NC seeks a Design Engineer II to independently develop and execute CAD designs for vehicle components and subsystems. You will manage BOMs, ensure manufacturability, and apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 while collaborating cross-functionally with project managers.

Requirements include a BS in engineering and 2+ years in automotive/defense fields, CREO, Windchill, and strong communication skills. This is a full-time on-site role with potential overtime for deadlines.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
• At least 2 years in automotive, motorsport or defense vehicle field.
• Experience with sheet metal, weldments, or machined parts is a plus.
• Strong CAD experience, CREO preferred.
• PDM experience, Windchill preferred.
• FEA experience (Ansys) is a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• US Citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance if required.

Responsibilities

• Independently design vehicle components and subsystems in CAD.
• Own BOM development and drawing packages.
• Ensure designs meet performance, cost, manufacturability, and schedule needs.
• Apply GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards in all designs.
• Perform FEA or hand calculations to validate designs.
• Interface with Project Managers for schedules and input.
• Support prototype builds and resolve manufacturing issues.
• Collaborate with vendors for part fabrication.
• Mentor junior engineers on CAD practices.
• Identify design improvements and new concepts.
