Job summary

IAPMO is seeking a Design Engineer to join its Engineering team in Fort Wayne, Indiana. You will design and develop fluid-handling products such as pumps and meters, creating 3D models and drawings using SolidWorks, and supporting prototypes, testing, and optimization.

You will work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality to ensure regulatory compliance (UL, CE, ATEX, IECEx, CSA) and smooth product launches.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2–5 years of product development or mechanical design experience.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience with product testing, validation, root cause analysis, and design optimization.
  • Familiarity with hazardous-location product standards and regulatory compliance is preferred.
  • Experience with ERP and Product Data Management (PDM) systems is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, project management, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical and electromechanical fluid-handling products, including pumps, meters, and related equipment.
  • Create 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation using SolidWorks and other engineering tools.
  • Develop prototypes, conduct testing, analyze results, and refine designs to optimize performance and manufacturability.
  • Perform engineering analyses, including material selection, structural evaluations, fluid dynamics, and failure investigations.
  • Ensure products meet applicable regulatory and compliance standards, including UL, CE, ATEX, IECEx, and CSA requirements.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and other cross-functional teams to support successful product launches and ongoing production.
  • Manage engineering changes, maintain Bills of Material, and ensure documentation accuracy within ERP and document control systems.
  • Support legacy products, customer-specific solutions, and continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, cost, and performance.
