Job summary

Fisher Associates in Canonsburg, PA seeks a Design Engineer in its Energy Group to design civil site layouts, grading, utilities, drainage, and stormwater, while developing plans, calculations, and construction documents for solar, wind, pipelines, and other energy projects.

You will lead environmental permitting efforts, coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies, and contribute to project planning, cost estimates, and proposals, with a focus on delivering high-quality designs on schedule

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 5-10 years of civil engineering experience in energy, utilities, or land development.
• EIT required; PE preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office.
• Experience with National Grid, National Fuel Gas, or other utility projects.

Responsibilities

• Design site layouts, grading, utilities, drainage, stormwater, and erosion control solutions.
• Develop plans, calculations, estimates, reports, and construction documents.
• Support stormwater and environmental permitting initiatives and ensure designs comply with state and local regulations, safety codes, and industry standards.
• Lead environmental assessments and permitting efforts while collaborating with clients and regulatory agencies to secure approvals.
• Support electric, gas, and telecom utility design and Environmental Management & Construction Plans (EM&CP).
• Oversee construction progress to ensure work follows plans and safety standards.
• Participate in project planning, coordinate engineering tasks with scope, schedule, and budget, and maintain accurate project records.
• Prepare proposals and cost estimates for renewable energy, oil & gas, and utility projects while supporting internal teams with documentation, coordination, and presentations.

As a Design Engineer on Fisher's Energy Group, you'll support civil engineering design for solar, wind, electric and gas utilities, pipelines, and power systems. You'll apply your civil engineering expertise across site design, stormwater systems, utility coordination, environmental permitting, and construction while collaborating with clients, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams.

This role gives you the opportunity to expand your experience in energy infrastructure while taking ownership of meaningful design work. You'll work on challenging projects, learn from experienced engineers, and build your technical and project delivery skills in a collaborative environment.

What You'll Do

What We're Looking For

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 5-10 years of civil engineering experience in energy, utilities, or land development.
• EIT required; PE preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office.
• Experience with National Grid, National Fuel Gas, or other utility projects.

• Experience with environmental permitting and EM&CP development.

Compensation + Benefits

Salary range: $83,000-$98,000
