Job summary

Paycom is seeking a Design Engineer with a Control Systems emphasis to drive the core design of machine control systems and electronics architecture. The role centers on IQAN programming for machine control and system diagnostics, with responsibilities extending to electrical harness modeling and schematics.

The candidate will combine technical expertise, problem solving, and mechanical aptitude to meet project goals and customer needs. Experience in Parker IQAN and related languages is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Software Engineering or Computer Science (or AA with relevant experience).
  • Experience in Parker IQAN, C, C++, or similar PLC/logic languages required.
  • Understanding of robotics, automation, CAN J1939 protocols, sensors, engines, and hydraulic controls preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop IQAN software for machine control systems and displays.
  • Evaluate electrical systems, products, components and applications.
  • Schedule, execute, and oversee testing of product design.
  • Analyze production and machine/field issues and create solutions.
  • Develop test plans/logic to improve machine troubleshooting.
  • Model schematics and electrical harnesses.
  • Develop bill of materials.
  • Travel up to 10%.

Overview

Job location: Weiler Forestry Facility – LaGrange, GA 30241.

The Design Engineer with a Control Systems emphasis is responsible for the core design of machine control systems and electronics architecture. Focus will be on development of IQAN programming for machine control and system diagnostics. This person is responsible for analyzing and providing realistic recommendations on electrical components to ensure that the design meets the project goals, machine requirements, and customer needs. Responsibilities will extend into modeling of electrical harnesses and schematics. Combination of technical skills, problem solving, and strong mechanical aptitude is required for this job.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop IQAN software for machine control systems and displays
  • Evaluate electrical systems, products, components and applications
  • Schedule, execute, and oversee testing of product design
  • Analyze production and machine/field issues and create solutions
  • Develop test plans/logic to improve machine troubleshooting
  • Perform and organize product updates
  • Model schematics and electrical harnesses
  • Develop bill of materials
  • Follow safe design practices to prevent user injury and property damage
  • Develop, maintain, and review parts books/operations manuals of manufactured product
  • Travel up to 10% of the time

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree with a major in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Agricultural, Electrical, Software Engineering or Computer Science. An associate’s degree from a two‑year college/technical school with sufficient combination of education or experience is also accepted. Experience required in software development using Parker IQAN, C, C++, or similar PLC/logic‑based programming languages. Understanding of robotics, automation, CAN J1939 Protocols, sensors, engines, and hydraulic controls preferred.

Communication Skills

Ability to read, write and comprehend documents and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to internal and external individuals and groups.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Computer Skills

Experience required in software development using Parker IQAN, C, C++, or similar PLC/logic‑based programming languages. Proficiency in operating computer aided design programs, AutoCAD, 3D parametric modeling (CREO) preferred, as well as Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Excel and Word.

Additional Skills

Ability to identify the root cause of failed or defective parts and recommend and implement product design solutions. Ability to create robust designs, identify changes early in the design process and to recognize design commonality, creating cost‑efficient product designs. Ability to produce accurate, professional and error‑free documents in a timely manner. Strong knowledge in electronics, sensors, and DC electrical circuits preferred. Ability to operate heavy machinery, forklift, simple mechanics tools and wrenches, assembly hand tools, and assembly power tools.
