Job summary

Caterpillar is hiring a Design Engineer in Sanford, NC to contribute to the CUL Chassis team, driving new product introduction and continuous improvement. You will collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and product teams to deliver robust chassis designs and release documentation.

The role emphasizes hands-on prototype builds, design reviews, and efficient cross-functional communication to meet cost and packaging goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.
• Experience with design of chassis components and NPI/CPI activities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to CUL Chassis designs by applying engineering judgment to design, issue resolution, validation, and production support.
• Support NPI and CPI activities through design, validation planning, release, and production readiness.
• Design chassis components and hydraulic lines routing—light fabrications, brackets, guards, tanks, balancing packaging and cost.
• Coordinate corrective actions and action plans with cross-functional partners to resolve issues.
• Participate in hands-on fit-ups, prototype builds, design reviews, and production readiness activities.
• Create and release engineering documentation in collaboration with manufacturing, suppliers, and quality.
