About the Opportunity
We're partnering with a rapidly growing Building Automation contractor that specializes in mission-critical and data center environments across North America. Due to continued project growth, they are seeking a Design Engineer to support the design and engineering of Building Automation Systems (BAS) for large-scale data center projects.
This is an opportunity to work on some of the most advanced facilities in the industry, collaborating with engineering, operations, and project teams to deliver high-performance control systems that support critical uptime requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Building Automation and Controls systems for data center and mission-critical facilities.
- Develop control drawings, network architecture diagrams, I/O schedules, panel layouts, and system schematics.
- Produce detailed sequences of operation based on project specifications and client requirements.
- Coordinate with consulting engineers, contractors, commissioning teams, and end users.
- Review mechanical and electrical drawings to ensure proper controls integration.
- Create points lists, device layouts, bill of materials (BOMs), and engineering submittals.
- Support project teams through design reviews, construction, installation, commissioning, and project closeout.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards, client requirements, and best practices.
- Provide technical expertise related to HVAC systems, critical cooling infrastructure, and energy optimization strategies.
- Assist with value engineering efforts and recommend system improvements where applicable.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience designing Building Automation, Controls, or BMS systems.
- Experience supporting data center, mission-critical, or large commercial projects.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems including:
- Chillers
- CRAH Units
- CRAC Units
- Cooling Towers
- Air Handling Units
- Pumps and Hydronic Systems
- Experience developing control sequences and points lists.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with platforms such as:
- Tridium Niagara
- Siemens Desigo
- Johnson Controls Metasys
- Automated Logic (ALC)
- Schneider Electric EcoStruxure
- Delta Controls
- Distech Controls
- Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, and IP-based control networks.
- Previous experience supporting hyperscale or colocation data centers.
- Engineering degree or technical controls background preferred.
