Job summary

InSite Engineering is seeking a Design Engineer to lead land development design from concept through construction, working with project managers, engineers, and clients.

You will prepare plans for residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects, utilizing Civil 3D and AutoCAD while ensuring regulatory compliance and accurate documentation. A 2–4 year background in civil engineering is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
• EIT certification or licensure actively being pursued.
• Proficiency with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and MS Office.
• Experience with land development projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare engineering plans and designs for residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use land development projects.
• Design grading, drainage, utilities, roadways, and stormwater systems.
• Develop plans and construction documents using Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
• Prepare calculations, zoning analyses, cost estimates, and supporting documentation.
• Research municipal ordinances and permitting requirements.
• Assist in permit applications and coordination with agencies.
• Participate in client and municipal meetings and project coordination.
• Conduct site visits, field investigations, and inspections as needed.
• Manage multiple projects to meet deadlines and quality standards.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to support projects from concept to construction.
• Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance as experience grows.

As a Design Engineer, you'll take on a larger role in the planning and design of land development projects while working closely with Project Managers, Professional Engineers, and clients. What You'll Do

• Prepare engineering plans and technical designs for residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use land development projects.


• Design grading, drainage, utility, roadway, and stormwater management systems in accordance with local and state regulations.


• Develop engineering plans and construction documents using Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD.


• Prepare engineering calculations, zoning analyses, cost estimates, bond estimates, and supporting technical documentation.


• Research and interpret municipal ordinances, land development regulations, and permitting requirements.


• Assist in preparing permit applications and coordinating with local, county, and state agencies.


• Participate in client meetings, municipal meetings, and project coordination with architects, attorneys, contractors, and other consultants.


• Conduct site visits, field investigations, and construction observations as needed.


• Manage multiple project assignments while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.


• Collaborate with Project Managers to support projects from conceptual planning through construction.


• Mentor junior engineering staff and provide technical guidance as experience grows.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.


• 2-4 years of relevant civil engineering or land development experience.


• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required or actively pursuing licensure.


• Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.


• Working knowledge of land development design, grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater management, and site permitting.


• Familiarity with municipal, county, and state land use regulations.


• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


• Ability to manage multiple priorities while working both independently and collaboratively.
