Job summary

Vactor Mfg. Inc. in Illinois seeks an engineer with 1–3 years of engineering design experience to develop layouts, modify existing products, and support production.

You will use CAD (Pro-E preferred), analyze designs for strength, safety and quality, and collaborate across engineering, marketing and manufacturing to implement projects. Travel to field/trade shows may be required.

• Mobile equipment experience.
• Electrical controls/multiplex and hydraulics systems experience a plus.
• Good written and oral communication and computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate development of layouts and design for production use.
• Use engineering tools to analyze designs for strength, noise, functionality, ergonomics, safety and quality.
• Communicate with suppliers to develop product specifications.
• Develop project plans with input from engineering, marketing and production.
• Collaborate with production, manufacturing, lab supervision, marketing, service and engineering.
• Prepare and review engineering change packages and BOM investigations.
• Use CAD and office software to company standards.
• Participate in cost reduction processes.
• Evaluate product modifications for performance and user satisfaction; may travel for field or trade shows.
• Assist drafters and designers with engineering input.
• Develop project plans with cross-functional input.

Job Responsibilities

• Coordinate the development of layouts and design and/or modification in existing products, and information required for production use.
• Use engineering tools to analyze designs to meet requirements for strength, noise, functionality, ergonomics, safety and quality.
• Communicate and coordinate with suppliers where engineering input is required to develop specifications for products and/or components.
• Develop project plans with input from engineering, marketing and production.
• Work with production, manufacturing engineering, lab supervision, marketing, service, and engineering personnel during the implementation of a project.
• Prepare and review complete engineering change packages, including BOM investigations per departmental procedures for completeness and accuracy.
• Use departmental CAD system and office software, to company standards and procedures, at or above a level needed to perform typical duties.
• Participate in the cost reduction process as needed.
• Evaluate product or product modification to determine the degree of success of the product in terms of performance and user satisfaction. May include travel to the field and/or trade shows.
• Assist drafters and designers with required engineering expertise to complete design activities.
• Develop project plans with input from engineering, marketing and production.

Salary Range - Engineer I = $70-85k; Engineer II = $85-100k
