Job summary

Orthogonal seeks a design engineer to design and build its product. You’ll work across product design and front-end engineering, taking ideas from early flows and prototypes through production React. This is a full-time, in-person role in San Francisco.

You’ll collaborate with founders, users, and a small team to craft workflows, implement interfaces with React/TypeScript, and refine the design system while focusing on accessibility and usability.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience in product design, front-end engineering, or design engineering.
• Strong product judgment with attention to visual and interaction details.
• Portfolio showing both product thinking and implementation work.
• Comfortable working with a small team and changing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Design clear workflows for developers using Orthogonal’s dashboard, SDK, MCP, and CLI.
• Turn designs into production interfaces with Next.js, React, and TypeScript.
• Build and maintain a consistent design system.
• Prototype ideas and test them with users.

• Work with engineering to define and ship product changes.

Who you are

• Comfortable moving between design tools and production front-end code
• Experience with React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS
• Able to simplify technical workflows without hiding important details
• A portfolio that shows both product thinking and implementation work
• Comfortable working closely with a small team and changing priorities

• Experience with motion, data visualization, or information design
• Built and shipped your own products
• Open source contributions
