Job summary

Orthogonal is building the discovery, orchestration, and payment layer for the internet. You will design and implement a production-grade front-end system in React/TypeScript, turning Figma concepts into high-quality UI with performance and accessibility in mind.

We value ownership, startup speed, and a focus on delivering simple solutions to complex problems. This is a hands-on frontend role, based in San Francisco or with relocation support to join our team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building production front-end interfaces in design systems.
• Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JS/TS and React.
• Experience translating designs from Figma to production.
• Based in SF or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain a design system and component library in React and TypeScript.
• Turn Figma designs into production-ready UI with typography, motion, and accessibility.
• Prototype new interactions and product ideas in code and ship them yourself.
• Partner with engineers to keep the front end fast and maintainable.
• Own front-end quality: review UI PRs, catch visual regressions, and raise the bar.
• Improve performance and accessibility across product surfaces.
• Document patterns and tooling so the team can build consistently without you in the loop.

What You'll Do

• Build and maintain a design system and component library in React and TypeScript
• Turn Figma designs into production-ready UI, with close attention to typography, motion, and accessibility
• Prototype new interactions and product ideas in code, then ship them yourself
• Partner with engineers to keep the front end fast and maintainable
• Own front-end quality: review UI pull requests, catch visual regressions, and raise the bar
• Improve performance and accessibility across product surfaces
• Document patterns and tooling so the team can build consistently without you in the loop

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years building production front-end interfaces, ideally in a design-engineering or design-systems role
• Background in startups or fast-paced product environment
• Strong command of HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern frameworks such as React
• Fluency in Figma and comfort translating design intent
• Solid grasp of data structures, system design, and API design
• Bias toward ownership, curiosity, and delivering simple solutions to complex problems
• Based in SF or willing to relocate
• Value autonomy over process
