Job summary

Pentangle Tech Services | P5 Group in Novi, MI seeks an experienced BIW Design Engineer to support CAD models for automotive body structures, focusing on Body Side Outer/Structure, Front Structure, and Underbody components.

You will develop parts and assemblies, perform DMU analyses, and coordinate with offshore teams, ensuring manufacturability, DFMA and adherence to engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Expertise in CATIA V5/V6 and PDM systems.
• Experience with packaging studies and presenting engineering data.
• Experience integrating CAD into client KVS systems.
• Strong background in sheet metal component and assembly design.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5–10 years of experience in mechanical engineering and automotive BIW assignments.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Design Engineer – BIW (Body-in-White)

Location: Novi, MI

Duration: Long Term Contract

We are looking for an experienced BIW Design Engineer to support the development, release, and maintenance of CAD models for automotive body structures. This role will focus on Body Side Outer/Structure, Front Structure, and Underbody components, ensuring design integrity, manufacturability, and compliance with engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop CAD models to support updates and changes to existing parts/assemblies for manufacturing feasibility, performance improvements, and interface changes.
• Design new parts/assemblies addressing vehicle performance, manufacturing feasibility, and system integration.
• Conduct engineering studies as required.
• Coordinate with offshore teams for design development and data exchange.
• Release CAD data in the KVS system.

Design Development Activities:

• Generate engineering data (3D CAD, 2D drawings, 3D annotations).
• Perform B-surface generation, feasibility checks, and define mounting & locating principles.
• Conduct DMU analysis for clash, clearance, packaging, assembly, and serviceability.
• Validate interface architecture and perform quality checks on 3D CAD, master sections, and BOM management.
• Execute kinematics checks for moving parts and confirm DFA/DFM/DFS compliance.
• Update CAD based on feedback from suppliers, CAE, DVA, and assembly teams.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Expertise in CATIA V5/V6 and PDM systems.
• Ability to perform packaging studies and provide media for engineering presentations.
• Experience incorporating CAD into client KVS systems.
• Strong background in sheet metal component and assembly design.
• Proficient in creating 3D parametric models and 2D drawings.
