Position Overview
The
A/V System Design Engineer is responsible for providing design support for our A/V division. Candidates should be technically adept and dependable self-starters, with experience in all facets of A/V systems design and a firm grasp of current A/V technologies. Top candidates will also bring an exceptional customer-first attitude to every aspect of his/her work.
Position will be covering the Knoxville, TN market but will be fully remote with some travel required.
Primary Essential Job Duties
- Design and illustrate comprehensive A/V systems encompassing system control, digital signal processors (DSPs), matrix mixers, networked A/V, and leading videoconferencing platforms.
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of networking and IP-based protocols, extensive enough to enable the design of IP-based AV solutions.
- Fluently read and accurately comprehend detailed system drawings and architectural blueprints for design and implementation purposes.
- Ability to interpret, create, and modify architectural and electrical blueprints.
- Contribute to all project phases, from initial estimating and design through to final commissioning.
- Maintain open and effective communication with Account Managers and fellow Design Engineers throughout the design process.
- Interact professionally with customers and their IT/AV personnel.
- Develop designs that meet or exceed AVIXA’s best practices and local regulatory requirements.
- Commit to continuous learning, keeping current with industry trends and product advancements through vendor engagement and training.

Job Requirements
Technical Expertise & Knowledge:
- Deep Understanding of AV Systems & Components:
- Audio systems (DSP, mixers, amplifiers, speakers, microphones, signal flow)
- Video systems (displays, projectors, switchers, matrices, video conferencing codecs, digital signage)
- Control systems (Crestron, Extron, AMX, QSC, Biamp)
- Networking and IP-based AV solutions
- Unified Communications (Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams Rooms)
- Familiarity with other low-voltage disciplines (CCTV, Access Control, Network Cabling, etc.) a plus
Software Proficiency
- Experience in creating detailed schematics, architectural drawings, rack elevations and room layouts a plus.
- Experience with Acoustic Modeling software such as Ease Focus, Soundvision or Ease Address considered a plus.
Basic
- Travel as needed, typically not more than 1 week per quarter.
- Available during M3 hours of operation (remote).
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Patience, determination, discipline and maturity to manage time and effectively handle stressful situations, should they arise.
Education And Experience
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ design or technical service experience in the A/V Industry.
- Manufacturer certifications strongly desired, particularly Crestron, Extron, Biamp, QSC
- Valid driver’s license with appropriate driving record
