Qualifications

• Professional Engineer license in Indiana is required, with PE pursuit exceptions possible for EIT/FE candidates.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate state vehicles.
• Extensive knowledge of civil engineering theories, highway/transportation design, and AASHTO standards.
• Proficiency with CAD, ArcGIS, and INDOT systems (SPMS, dTIMS, WMS).
• At least 4 years of professional experience in civil engineering, transportation research, or related field.
• Ability to prepare and review complex design plans and perform design calculations.

The Design Engineer develops road design plans for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) using OpenRoads Designer software, participates in site visits, coordinates projects, and trains junior staff. This role is based at INDOT's Central Office in Indianapolis and requires a registered Professional Engineer license in Indiana, though exceptions may be considered for candidates with Engineer-in-Training or Fundamentals of Engineering certification actively pursuing PE licensure.
