  • Develops detailed 3D models, drawings, and BOMs for new and existing products.
  • Collaborates with Production, Procurement, and Quality to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
  • Applies GD&T with appropriate tolerances in compliance with industry standards.
  • Participates in product development from concept through production release.
  • Maintains design files in PDM/PLM systems and supports prototyping.
  • Provides technical support to manufacturing during product launch and production.

Education/Training:

Associate degree or equivalent training in mechanical design, engineering technology, or a related field preferred.

Skill(s):

Strong communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams and external suppliers; proficient in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and familiarity with PDM/PLM systems; skilled in creating accurate engineering drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation; capable of analyzing designs for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and performance; strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials selection, and manufacturing processes (fabrication, machining, assembly); familiarity with engineering standards, tolerances, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing); demonstrated knowledge of product lifecycle management and documentation control processes; exercises solution-oriented problem solving, with the agility to navigate shifting priorities and overcome obstacles; highly detail-focused with a commitment to accuracy and quality in design work; creative mindset with the ability to develop innovative solutions to technical challenges ability to manage multiple design projects under tight deadlines; and strong organizational skills and ability to manage complex projects from concept to completion.

Working Conditions:

Ability to stand, sit, bend, reach, twist and lift items weighing 40lbs. or less; extended periods of computer-based design workand use of fine motor skills involving repetitive motions; and primarily an office-based role with regular collaboration across manufacturing and production areas and may involve prototype support, plant floor interaction.

Experience

Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Hands-on experience with product development, prototyping, and engineering change processes.

General Responsibilities

The Design Engineer drives product innovation from concept to production by creating detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Production, Procurement, and Quality) to develop solutions that meet customer requirements while ensuring strict adherence to safety, manufacturability, and company standards.

  • Develops detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and BOMs for new and existing products.
  • Collaborates with Engineering, Production, Procurement, and Quality to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
  • Applies GD&T and appropriate tolerances to all designs in compliance with industry standards.
  • Participates in product development from concept through production release.
  • Reviews and processes Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Conducts design reviews and provides technical input to improve performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Supports prototype builds and testing to validate designs against specifications and requirements.
  • Maintains accurate and organized design files in PDM/PLM systems.
  • Provides technical support to manufacturing teams during product launch and production.
  • Participates with Engineering leadership in setting departmental design and development goals.
  • Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the workplace.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and support the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the company’s compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor as requested, or according to an established schedule; compiles information as necessary or as directed and provides data to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries relating to his/her particular area, or to requests from customers, other personnel, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.
  • Ability to create product tanks, small parts, bumpers.
  • Utilizes Lunch Box sessions and completes tests provided following each section.
  • Completion of National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) training.
  • Meets all Engineer I requirements.
  • Product engineer ability to create a flatbed or mechanics truck start to finish.
  • Proficient on road water products.
  • Electrical Engineer: proficient in Curry product line with electrical design, expertise and experience.
  • Rail Engineer: proficient in rail design/engineering and cross trained in other product lines.
  • Works with minimal supervision and interacts with shop floor employees to develop better drawings and understand changes to benefit the manufacturing process.
  • Meets all Engineer1 and II requirements unless sufficient previous work experience in a related field.
  • Mastery of all Curry products but not limited to off road, fuel lubes and custom builds and cross trained in electrical or rail specialties.
  • Works independently and utilizes project management skills.
  • Assists in training the engineering team.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of bill of materials, parts and project lead times.
  • Interacts with sales team and customers as well as purchasing and department managers.
