Job summary

Hubbell-Electric-Heater-Co is seeking an engineer/designer to develop, design, model, and cost mechanical and electromechanical products. You will create solid models and drawings using SolidWorks, interpret complex drawings, and specify components to meet specifications while coordinating with Purchasing and Sales.

The role requires an AS in Mechanical Engineering or CAD cert with 5 years related experience, and proficiency in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or CAD certificate with 5 years related experience.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to evaluate customer proposals and determine design feasibility and cost.

Responsibilities

  • Create solid models and technical drawings for quoting and fabrication using CAD software (SolidWorks).
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, manuals, and reports.
  • Specify components to meet engineering design and performance specifications; research and provide detailed specs for Purchasing.

Summary

Responsible for working with Sales for quoting and Engineering for job processing to develop, design, model, and cost mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Create solid models and technical drawings for quoting and/or fabrication of various Company products using CAD software (SolidWorks).

Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, manuals, and reports.

Apply knowledge of appropriate design practices to aid in evaluation of customer proposals and specifications to determine feasibility of design and/or application, and cost.

Specify components to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. Research and provide detailed specifications for Purchasing to quote and/or procure materials or components required for the fabrication of the product.

Aid in the design and development of technical documents and manuals to satisfy Company and customer requirements.

Provide engineering guidance to Sales and Technical Support staff as required.

Design and create electrical schematics.

Use computer assisted engineering / design software and equipment to perform design tasks.

Interact with and provide telephone support for customers and field technicians to facilitate troubleshooting and repair of equipment.

Prepares and maintains computerized bill of materials for production items.

Estimate labor times for manufacturing.

Interfaces with customer to develop and/or modify product designs to meet customer requirements.

Produces and prepares work orders for distribution to the production supervisor.

Draws up master schedule to establish sequence and lead time of each operation to meet shipping dates according to customer orders.

Plans sequence of fabrication, assembly and other manufacturing operations for guidance of production workers.

Confers with department supervisors to determine status of assigned projects.

Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Associate’s (AS) degree in Mechanical Engineering or certificate in CAD design and 5 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and legal documents.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or issues from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to effectively present information to management, customers, vendors, and/or Company employees.

Computer Skills: Competent with computer software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio), Outlook, and SolidWorks.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands

General office / warehouse environment.

Ability to continuously stand or walk.

Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing written and electronic figures, viewing a computer terminal, and visual inspection involving small defects.

Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.

May occasionally involve repetitive movements.

Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, bend, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 35 pounds or less.

Multi-tasking with frequent interruptions.

Occasionally write by hand, use a telephone, twist, bend, stoop, and squat.

Working Conditions

May require extensive work hours during peak business planning cycles. Requires overnight travel domestically and internationally on occasion. A valid passport and suitable identification are necessary.
