Job summary

Kelly is seeking a Design Engineer to join our Grand Forks, ND manufacturing team. You will design and engineer custom products, lead design staff, and collaborate with sales on design considerations before quoting.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in structural, civil, or mechanical engineering (ABET-accredited) and proficiency with CAD-based drafting software. SolidWorks and/or RISA 3D experience is preferred as you support manufacturing with technical solutions.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in structural, civil, or mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited university (required).
  • Experience with CAD-based drafting/engineering software is required.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and engineering custom products to maximize value, improve performance, and enhance manufacturability.
  • Leading design staff in producing customer-driven solutions and collaborating with sales on design considerations prior to quoting.
  • Performing structural analysis, reviewing fabrication drawings, and providing recommendations for welding and structural connections.
  • Standardizing and automating engineering practices to improve departmental efficiency.
  • Coordinating with vendors and internal teams to ensure design intent is met and supporting manufacturing through technical solutions.
  • Conducting in-house product testing, recording data, and generating reports.
  • Facilitating meetings for project planning, design review, and collaborating with third-party engineering firms.

Salary/Pay Rate/Compensation: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour

Mon – Fri, 8 am – 5 pm

This Job Might Be An Outstanding Fit If You
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in structural, civil, or mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited university (required)
  • Have experience with CAD-based drafting/engineering software (required)
  • Understand engineering design principles for steel and aluminum structures and connections
  • Possess strong teamwork, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills
  • Are adaptable, organized, and able to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • (Preferred) Have experience with SolidWorks and/or RISA 3D, a background in steel manufacturing, knowledge of welding principles, and experience using Excel for computation development
