Job Summary

Camillo Companies is seeking an experienced Design Development Manager to translate Schematic Design drawings and sketches into CAD and coordinate their transition to an outsourced partner for construction documents. This position is responsible for managing workflows, quality control, and supporting the day-to-day operations of the design team and continuous process improvement initiatives. This individual will also help in creating the construction details that will be used to standardize and make more efficient the assembly of CD’s.

The ideal candidate is a team player familiar with the design process, strong technical expertise in CAD software, experience executing construction documents, and a passion for developing efficient home plan designs that support organizational goals. This individual will work closely with architects, designers, engineering teams, and leadership to ensure all design documentation meets company standards for quality, accuracy, and consistency.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Manage assigned architectural projects through the Design Development process, translating Schematic Design drawings and sketches into accurate, coordinated CAD drawings and ensuring plans, revisions, options, and deliverables are completed in accordance with established schedules and project requirements.
  • Coordinate the development of architectural plan components, including floor plans, elevations, interior elevations, cabinet plans, roof plans, cornice/eave details, construction details, options, and other design documentation required for production.
  • Manage the transition of Design Development drawings to outsourced drafting partners for preparation of Construction Documents, providing design direction, coordinating redlines and revisions, resolving questions, and serving as a primary architectural resource throughout the process.
  • Perform comprehensive quality-control reviews of architectural plans and Construction Documents to ensure they are complete, accurate, coordinated, constructible, and consistent with design intent, company standards, applicable codes, jurisdictional requirements, community design guidelines, and developer requirements.
  • Review plans for functionality, constructability, efficiency, design quality, and consistency, identifying opportunities for value engineering and plan improvements without compromising design intent, architectural quality, or customer appeal.
  • Coordinate structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other consultant requirements as they affect architectural design, working with engineers, consultants, CAD/design staff, and other stakeholders to resolve technical issues and maintain coordinated documents.
  • Develop and maintain architectural and drafting standards, including construction details, notes, documentation requirements, and other standardized components that improve consistency, quality, and efficiency across the plan portfolio.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Pattern Books and architectural options, including structural options, room configurations, exterior options, buyer-facing selections, and other plan components required to support community and production needs.
  • Provide design direction and technical guidance to architectural designers, CAD technicians, and other members of the product-development team, promoting consistent application of company design and drafting standards.
  • Serve as an architectural resource throughout estimating, permitting, construction, and field implementation, participating in field walks, model reviews, frame walks, post-construction evaluations, and other activities as needed to identify and resolve design or documentation issues.
  • Continually improve Design Development processes and workflows to increase speed, accuracy, consistency, and scalability across the organization.
  • Protect company intellectual property, including proprietary plans, details, standards, and other design content, and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Friendly and welcoming demeanor with the ability to maintain professionalism and a strong customer-focused demeanor with demanding clientele.
  • Excellent time management skills, detail-orientation and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, along with advanced conflict resolution skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills and proficient in English. Must be able to articulate needs and convey information verbally and in writing effectively with employees, customers, supervisors, and co-workers throughout the organization.
  • Knowledge of management methods and sound employee relations techniques with an ability to connect to staff, troubleshoot problems and help teams collaborate, as necessary.
  • Able to work in an equitable, inclusive, and diverse environment. The Camillo family of companies are committed to enhancing equity, inclusion, and diversity, including hiring talent from all backgrounds.
  • Strong technical proficiency in CAD software, and related design technologies.
  • Strong design aptitude with the ability to interpret architectural plans, apply drafting standards, and produce accurate construction documents.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Performs complex tasks typically following established processes.
  • Ability to establish and enforce drafting standards and quality control procedures.
  • Ability to identify and seek needed information/research skills.
