Job summary

Trelleborg is seeking an Application Engineer to design and develop anti-vibration solutions, create detailed CAD models, and provide technical guidance to customers.

The role involves validating test programs, supporting product improvement, and mentoring junior engineers, with a hybrid work structure and opportunities to travel.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in similar roles, a Mechanical or Polymer Engineering degree, and strong communication and design skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar anti-vibration role.
• Degree in Mechanical or Polymer Engineering.
• Ability to read and communicate complex engineering drawings; 3D CAD knowledge is essential.
• Demonstrated product design experience and understanding of the design process.
• High attention to detail with excellent customer communication.
• Experience applying analytical approaches to design solutions.
• Proficient with Microsoft programs.

Responsibilities

• Receive enquiries from existing and prospective customers and understand detailed client needs.
• Work with customers through initial specification, design freeze and approval; travel may be required.
• Create concept proposals with technical specs and costs and assess feasibility.
• Perform technical calculations related to stress, strain and stiffness and define tests.
• Design product solutions that meet customer requirements and chair engineering reviews.
• Provide reports detailing product selection for applications.
• Ensure manufacturability and cost effectiveness by understanding tolerances and design implications.
• Support customer focus and respond to inquiries in a timely manner; mentor other team members.

About the Role

As an Application Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing anti-vibration solutions that meet customer requirements while ensuring technical excellence and product performance. You will identify and recommend the most suitable products from the existing portfolio, create detailed CAD models and manufacturing drawings, and provide expert technical guidance to customers on product selection and application. The role also involves developing and executing validation test programmes to demonstrate product suitability for specific applications, documenting results, and supporting continuous product improvement. In addition, you will mentor and guide junior engineers, promoting engineering best practices and contributing to the overall technical capability of the team.

Key Responsibilities

All team members are responsible for demonstrating commitment with respect to the management system, by contributing to the effective implementation, operation and control of its processes.

• Enquires
  • The Engineer will be tasked with receiving enquiries from existing and prospective customers. The Engineer will be responsible for fully understanding the detailed needs of the client through careful consultation with relevant people in their organisation
• Having understood the customer needs the Engineer is expected to continue to work closely with the customers. Through the initial specification phase and the product design freeze and approval phase. Some business travel will be required to support this
• Concept Proposals
  • It will be incumbent upon the Engineer to create a concept proposal. Including the appropriate technical specification and costs as well as assessing the feasibility of manufacturing the product
• Performance Criteria
  • The Engineer will perform the appropriate technical calculations relating to stress, strain and stiffness as well as defining the tests that are to be carried out. The tests should demonstrate that the design meets the customer technical requirements. ·
• Design Solution
  • From a clear understanding of the customers requirements a product solution is designed that meets the customers expectations. This will be designed from experience of other similar applications, manual calculations or computer programmes that help provide the best design solution either a modification of an existing design or a new product. The Engineer will raise the appropriate data for a new product and chair engineering review meetings. ·
• Application Engineering
  • The Engineer will provide customers with reports detailing the product selection for their application. ·
• Design for Cost Effective Manufacture
  • The Engineer will ensure that the product is able to be readily manufactured in a timely and cost effective manner by understanding the manufacturing implications of the tolerances and detailed design solution. ·
• Customer Focus
  • The Engineer will be dedicated to provide the highest level of customer service and answer all enquiries in a timely manner. ·
• Guidance and teaching
  • The Engineer will be provide assistance to all other department members and share knowledge of their experience. They shall advise on best design principles to provide the best design solution

What you bring

• A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role within the anti-vibration products industry
• Degree qualified in Mechanical or Polymer Engineering
• Ability to design and communicate the information presented on complex engineering drawings, and have a sound grasp of product design. 3D CAD knowledge is an essential requirement
• Ability to demonstrate product design experience and understand the design process.
• A high level of attention to detail is essential.
• Excellent communication skills and should demonstrate some previous experience in liaising and interacting efficiently with customers in a professional manner.
• Experience in applying analytical approaches to the resolution of design solutions
• Familiar with Microsoft programs.
