Job summary

The Great Basin Institute (GBI) seeks an Archaeology Crew Lead to guide a two-person team on the Death Valley National Park Flood Response Team. Lead field surveys, site recording, and monitoring for diverse cultural resources projects within DEVA, contributing to a broader mission of preserving and documenting public lands.

Responsibilities include coordinating field safety, QA, and reporting, plus preparing site records, GIS maps, and heritage data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology or related discipline with field methods training.
• At least one year of archaeology field work experience.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in anthropology or archaeology with field leadership.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with archaeologist and staff to plan safety, logistics, QA, field implementation and reporting.
• Conduct field surveys, condition assessments, site recording, or monitoring.
• Prepare and update California DPR site records, GIS maps and photos.
• Use GPS devices to collect data and produce maps and geodatabases.
