Qualifications

• Minimum 20 years of experience in Section 106 NHPA or a Ph.D. in Anthropology, Archaeology, Environmental Compliance, or Project Management.
• Experience with Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
• Proficiency in Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, MS Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint.

Responsabilités

• Work with park staff to develop a flood model for assessment purposes within Section 110 and 106 survey work.
• Assist with the development of a Programmatic Agreement with the SHPO to define major cultural resource concerns related to abandoned mine land and flood recovery work; prepare correspondence with the SHPO.
• Review NEPA analysis and other cultural resource reports prepared by park staff or third parties, including CalTrans and NPS contractors.
• Leverage and engage archaeological staffing from within and outside the NPS to scale compliance field work and consultations as needed.

Archaeologist (ID: NPSDEVA-003-003) – National Experienced Workforce Solutions. Located in Death Valley, CA, this temporary, project‑based position is funded for an estimated 48 weeks. The role requires a minimum of 10 hours per week, a wage of $65.00 per hour, and a minimum age of 55. It is part of the National Park Service Experienced Services Program, which connects seasoned workers (55+) with the Park Service to provide scientific, technical, and administrative support under the direction of the Park Service staff.

Overview

The Enrollee will support Death Valley National Park on flood recovery compliance activities related to archaeological, historic, and traditional cultural properties. The Enrollee will also provide compliance assistance to other parks with disaster recovery as needed and will make authoritative recommendations on NHPA compliance work for mining sites, abandoned mine lands, and related park assets.

Travel Requirements

• 3 to 4 overnight trips over the 30‑week time frame.
• 3 to 4 three‑day trips by air travel.
• 3 to 4 three‑day trips with rental cars.

Health and Safety Considerations

• Review of appropriate Job Hazard Analyses for defensive driving, field work, and construction site work.

Physical Requirements

Work is generally performed in an office setting, with occasional field visits. Limited travel to project sites is expected. Remote work arrangements are available.
