Job summary

Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care (PVESC) in Portland, ME, is seeking a Dermatology Veterinary Assistant to join a dynamic, board-certified dermatologist-led team dedicated to compassionate care.

You will support patients through diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up while collaborating with Internal Medicine, Oncology, Surgery and Radiology teams to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experienced veterinary assistant.
• Experience in specialty medicine and/or dermatology preferred.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Confidence working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Familiarity with veterinary medical software (e.g., EzyVet, SmartFlow) a plus.
• A positive attitude and commitment to compassionate care.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and immunotherapy under the supervision of a dermatologist.
• Assist with diagnostics, including lab work, imaging, and CT scans.
• Support oncology appointments and help manage patient flow and scheduling.
• Maintain accurate medical records, treatment notes, and drug logs.
• Provide empathetic client communication and education.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Internal Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, and Radiology.
• Deliver emotional support and patient-centered care during every step of treatment.

Anticipated Schedule

This is a full-time position.

• Monday-Thursday 7:30am-6pm potential change for Tuesday-Friday 7:30am-6pm
• Some holidays are required

Compensation

• Starting pay with ranges $25.00- $28.00

What You’ll Do

As an Dermatology Veterinary Assistant you’ll work closely with our board-certified dermatologist to support patients throughout their treatment—from diagnosis through follow-up. You’ll be a steady, compassionate presence for both patients and families.
