Job summary

Anne Arundel Dermatology in Norfolk, VA is looking for a Medical Assistant to support physicians and providers in a fast-paced outpatient clinic.

You will room patients, obtain vital signs, prepare procedure trays, and assist with dermatology procedures while maintaining EMR documentation and HIPAA compliance.

Schedule is 4-5 days per week, typically 7:00am to 5:00pm, with benefits for 30+ hours. Dermatology experience is a plus and on-site training is provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous medical/clinical experience preferred; dermatology experience a plus.
• Medical Assistant program or certification preferred, unless state law says otherwise.
• Experience with EMR/EHR systems preferred.
• Comfortable rooming patients, taking histories and vitals, and supporting procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for excellent patient experience.
• Attention to detail, organized, able to manage multiple priorities.
• Team oriented, dependable, and adaptable to a physician-led clinic.
• Willingness to learn dermatology workflows and procedures.
• Travel to nearby practice locations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Room patients, obtain vital signs, and document intake in the EMR.
• Coordinate patient flow and support clinic operations.
• Prepare procedure trays, instruments, and equipment; assist dermatology procedures.
• Prepare and route pathology/lab specimens per insurance rules.
• Respond to patient questions and nurse line messages as directed.
• Sterilize, maintain, and inventory clinical equipment and supplies.
• Maintain medication and supply inventory; remove expired items.
• Support infection control standards and keep spaces organized.
• Document patient information and scribe provider notes in the EMR.
• Assist with local anesthetic administration.
• Handle phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental communications promptly.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
