Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC seeks a Medical Assistant for ambulatory dermatology clinics to support direct patient care, exam room preparation, and documentation in EPIC. You will help manage clinic flow and ensure a safe, quality patient experience under physician supervision.

The ideal candidate holds MA certification/registration with CPR, and is willing to obtain certification within 180 days. Compensation reflects starting salary range and a Monday–Friday schedule.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Certification/Registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g. CMA, AAMA, RMA, AMT, NAHP).
  • If not currently certified/registered, must become certified/registered within 180 days (6 months) of date of hire.
  • Current CPR certification by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross required.
  • Must maintain MA and CPR certification/registration during duration of employment in this position.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patient to exam room.
  • Screen patient prior to doctor's exam and document in EPIC.
  • Prepare for patient procedures.
  • Effectively explain processes to patient.
  • Maintain inventory and supply ordering.
  • Help monitor clinic flow.
  • Stock exam rooms.
  • Determine appropriate information and resources needed related to clinical situation.
  • Organize and summarize information.
  • Uses various equipment to monitor vital signs (automated & manual) and other clinical devices.
  • Identify signs indicative of changing patient care and notify appropriate person.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving and critical thinking during patient care activities.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement to ensure safety and quality.
  • Under Clinic Manager direction, take clinical actions to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Independently prioritize daily tasks and assignments.
  • Follow established policies and procedures.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
