Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred/required based on applicable state and organizational requirements.
  • Previous medical assistant or clinical healthcare experience.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Obtain and document patient medical histories, medications, allergies, and vital signs.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for provider evaluation.
  • Assist providers with dermatological examinations and procedures.
  • Assist with minor dermatologic procedures, including biopsies, lesion removals, wound care, and other procedures as directed by the provider and permitted by applicable regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain sterile fields and follow infection-control procedures.
  • Document patient care accurately and timely in the EMR.
  • Coordinate laboratory and pathology results and communicate information to the appropriate clinical team.

Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Dermatology Medical Assistant (MA) to support providers in delivering high-quality dermatological care. The Dermatology MA will assist with patient intake, clinical procedures, documentation, specimen handling, and other clinical and administrative responsibilities within the dermatology setting. The ideal candidate is organized, patient-focused, comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment, and able to work effectively with providers and the broader healthcare team.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure necessary supplies and equipment are available.
  • Obtain and document patient medical histories, medications, allergies, and vital signs.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for provider evaluation.
  • Assist providers with dermatological examinations and procedures.
  • Assist with minor dermatologic procedures, including biopsies, lesion removals, wound care, and other procedures as directed by the provider and permitted by applicable regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain sterile fields and follow infection‑control procedures.
  • Clean, disinfect, and properly maintain clinical equipment and examination rooms.
  • Assist with specimen collection, labeling, preparation, and appropriate handling for laboratory/pathology submission.
  • Provide and reinforce provider‑directed patient education regarding wound care, medications, skin care, and follow‑up instructions.
  • Perform dressing changes and assist with post‑procedure care as directed.
  • Prepare and administer medications, injections, or topical treatments when permitted by state regulations and organizational policy.
  • Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Assist providers with documentation, orders, referrals, prescriptions, and follow‑up as needed.
  • Coordinate laboratory and pathology results and communicate information to the appropriate clinical team.
  • Assist with patient scheduling, follow‑up appointments, and coordination of care when needed.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of clinical supplies and notify leadership when supplies need to be reordered.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Follow OSHA, infection‑control, safety, and clinical compliance standards.
  • Provide a professional and welcoming patient experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred/required based on applicable state and organizational requirements.
  • Previous medical assistant or clinical healthcare experience.

Preferred
  • Previous dermatology experience.
  • Experience assisting with dermatologic procedures and biopsies.
  • Experience with specimen/pathology handling.
  • Familiarity with dermatology terminology and common skin conditions.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
