Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Dermatology ambulatory clinic. The LPN coordinates care with physicians and the care team, records health histories, and supports patients and families throughout exams and treatments.

Responsibilities include administering medications, preparing treatment areas, updating EMR charts, arranging tests/referrals, and educating patients on medications and aftercare.

Qualifications

• Licensed Practical Nurse graduation from an accredited program.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• BLS certification within 14 days of hire.
• Multistate LPN license appropriate for Kansas/Missouri.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and prepare them for examination or procedure.
• Record health history and vital signs; monitor patient condition.
• Administer medications (IM, subcutaneous, oral) as ordered.
• Assist with supplies and physician/provider during procedures.
• Document chart entries accurately and timely.
• Schedule tests, arrange referrals, and obtain pre-authorizations.
• Collect and deliver lab specimens; input results as needed.
• Notify patients of test results and follow-up needs.
• Review meds and after-visit instructions with patient/family.
• Respond to calls and coordinate pre-visit planning via EMR.
• Complete forms and obtain physician signatures as appropriate.
• Perform core competencies of the assigned unit; other duties as needed.
