Job summary

BMO is seeking a qualified attorney to join the Derivatives Legal Group within the Capital Markets Legal Team in Chicago. You will advise on derivatives, structured products, and trading-related matters, drafting and negotiating key documentation such as ISDA Master Agreements and CSAs.

The role requires deep regulatory knowledge, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to collaborate with trading, sales, risk, compliance and operations teams on a global scale.

Qualifications

• Degree in law (LLB or JD) and license to practice law in relevant jurisdiction.
• Experience drafting and negotiating derivatives documentation (ISDA Master Agreements, CSAs, Control Agreements, etc.).
• Strong understanding of regulatory requirements related to derivatives and capital markets.
• Ability to deliver practical, business-focused legal advice within a global financial services firm.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal and regulatory advice on derivatives, structured products, and trading matters.
• Partner with trading, sales, risk, compliance and operations teams to support business objectives.
• Draft and negotiate key market documents, including ISDA Master Agreements and CSAs.
• Identify risks and implement actions to mitigate them while advising on regulatory issues such as margin requirements.
• Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and act as subject-matter expert.
• Handle non-routine issues independently and escalate appropriately when needed.
