Job summary

AMERICAN ELECTRIC POWER is seeking a DER Project Manager to oversee a portfolio of distributed energy resource projects from initiation through commissioning and closeout. You will lead customer-driven interconnection initiatives, including solar, battery storage, and other distributed generation assets connected to the electric grid.

Qualifications

• PMP certification is preferred but not required.
• Valid state driver’s license is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, Project Management, Computer Science, or related field with no experience (0 years) or an associate degree with two years of qualified experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple DER projects through full lifecycle including initiation to closeout.
• Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and resource plans.
• Coordinate engineering, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout activities.
• Monitor project performance and take corrective action to mitigate schedule, cost, and scope impacts.
• Ensure all deliverables meet quality, safety, and operational requirements.
• Serve as primary interface with customers, developers, consultants, contractors, and internal utility organizations.
• Facilitate regular project status meetings and communicate progress to stakeholders.
• Manage customer expectations regarding scope, schedule, budget, and interconnection requirements.
• Coordinate with Distribution Planning, Protection & Control, Telecommunications, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Construction teams.
• Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and expenditures including CIAC and other funding requirements.
• Monitor financial performance and ensure compliance with financial controls.
• Support annual capital planning and portfolio budgeting activities.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues; maintain risk registers and mitigation strategies.
• Escalate critical concerns and lead resolution for delays, design conflicts, procurement constraints, and construction challenges.
• Ensure compliance with utility standards, interconnection requirements, environmental regulations, and industry codes.
• Support regulatory reporting and documentation requirements; maintain project records.
• Coordinate testing, commissioning, energization, and project turnover; ensure all requirements are satisfied.
