Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking a Deputy Director for Wildfire Long-Term Recovery Programs to oversee daily operations across a growing portfolio. You will guide multi‑workstream efforts, collaborate with leadership, and ensure alignment with community needs while traveling to wildfire-impacted areas.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) with 5+ years in related roles and 3+ years supervising staff in direct client settings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent.
• Strong skills in community organizing, case management and/or partner‑agency relations.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as supervisor or manager of workforce in direct client contact in social‑services.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day management and administrative operations across the Long-Term Recovery portfolio.
• Support execution and follow-through on current operational priorities.
• Manage internal team processes, workflows, and administrative systems.
• Track and monitor progress against operational goals and deliverables; flag risks or delays.
• Coordinate scheduling, staffing logistics, and deployment planning.
• Support onboarding and day-to-day management of team members.
• Manage internal reporting and documentation processes; ensure consistent tracking.
• Monitor program effectiveness via data; advocate for improvements.
• Provide direct supervision to assigned team members; conduct regular check-ins.
• Support administrative and operational tasks as needed.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview)

The Deputy Director for Wildfire Long-Term Recovery Programs reports to the Director of Wildfire Long-Term Recovery Programs and is responsible for supporting the day-to-day management and execution of program operations. A successful candidate is a detail-oriented team player with a proven track record of managing multiple concurrent workstreams within a matrixed organization. The role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, process improvement, problem-solving, and proactive collaboration. The Deputy Director supervises assigned staff and liaises closely with leadership to ensure day-to-day operations remain aligned with community needs, local recovery priorities, and the Red Cross mission. This role works closely with Regional and National Headquarters volunteer and paid staff, represents the fundamental principles of the American Red Cross in all interactions, and requires routine travel throughout wildfire-impacted areas. This is a full-time, term-limited, benefits eligible position expected to last through January 2028 with the opportunity to extend based on business need.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities)

• Oversee day-to-day management and administrative operations across the Long-Term Recovery portfolio, ensuring the team stays focused, on task, and performing to goal
• Support execution and follow-through on current operational priorities, maintaining momentum on established operations as attention and resources extend to newly absorbed operations
• Manage internal team processes, workflows, and administrative systems to support consistent execution across multiple concurrent operations
• Track and monitor progress against operational goals and deliverables, flagging risks or delays for the Director's attention
• Coordinate scheduling, staffing logistics, and deployment planning across operations, including surge and backstop coverage needs
• Support onboarding and day-to-day management of team members, providing consistent oversight as the team and portfolio grow
• Manage internal reporting and documentation processes to ensure consistent tracking across all active operations
• Monitor program effectiveness via collected data - both qualitative and quantitative - and serve as thoughtful advocate for program improvements
• Provide direct supervision to assigned team members, including regular check-ins, performance management and support for professional development.
• Support administrative and operational tasks as needed
• Other duties as assigned

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications)

• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• Strong skills in community organizing, case management and/or partner‑agency relations.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as supervisor or manager of workforce engaged in direct client contact in an outcomes‑based social‑services environment.

PAY INFORMATION

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000 - $130,000. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role. Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.
