Deputy Superintendent – Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center

Salary: $97,032 - $137,446.40/per year

Hours: Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Currently, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or STEM OPT extensions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Directing and coordinating essential activities necessary to carry out the mission of DDPC and, during absences, assume the Superintendent’s responsibilities.
• Providing administrative oversight to hospital departments as assigned by the DDPC’s Superintendent.
• Contributing to and providing leadership of a culture of collaboration and integration that supports the provision of patient-centered care, provides a safe environment for patients and staff, and supports innovation and creativity.
• Coordinating with forensic services, correctional facilities, courts, and police related to justice‑involved individuals receiving care at DDPC.
• Promoting DDPC’s mission to the communities it serves and helping to build community awareness of DDPC and its mission.
• Developing workforce strategies, including recruitment and retention of staff and employee engagement.
• Ensuring DDPC compliance with all regulatory agencies.
• Collaborating with DHHS leadership and the DDPC leadership team for the development of strategic and operational planning for DDPC and ensuring it is coordinated and consistent with that of Riverview Psychiatric Center (RPC), ensuring DDPC is meeting community and patient needs in an efficient and high‑quality manner, is responding appropriately to changing needs, and is positioned to influence the delivery of care to adults with severe and persistent mental illness state‑wide.
• Identifying and ensuring the implementation of operational process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of hospital, patient flow, and revenue cycle operations.
• Reviewing legislative proposals and federal guidance to assess alignment with system goals.

Minimum Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in the field of health care administration, business administration, or healthcare support professional; and 5 years of experience in a healthcare leadership position.

Preferred Candidates

• Strategic planning experience.
• Budget and finance experience.
• Clinical experience in a hospital setting.
• Project management experience.
• Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff within the organization, including physicians and other clinical providers.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully lead teams.

Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center (DDPC) is a 69‑bed psychiatric hospital serving the entire State of Maine that provides services for people with severe mental illness. As a member of a statewide community of care givers, DDPC collaborates with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, their community and personal supports, to provide recovery‑oriented, respectful, compassionate, and effective psychiatric care and treatment in the least restrictive, safest, and most therapeutic environment we can create.
