Job summary

Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center is seeking a supervisory maintenance leader to direct and coordinate the plant operation and maintenance programs at a large state facility. You will oversee building, grounds, mechanical systems, and vehicle operations, while managing a sizable trades/plant workforce. Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in plant maintenance, knowledge of heating systems, and prior managerial experience.

The role offers a 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years’ experience in managing the maintenance and repair of a physical plant.
• Experience in building and mechanical trades and/or the operation of high-pressure steam heating plants.
• Boilers Engineer’s License preferred, plus prior managerial experience.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee grounds maintenance and transport operations to ensure a safe environment.
• Direct, monitor, and inspect operation and maintenance of heating, water treatment, life safety systems, door access systems, and sewerage disposal plants.
• Prepares plans and specifications for minor work and schedules maintenance, repairs, and alteration projects to meet institutional needs.
• Coordinates with all hospital departments to ensure the surveillance system is meeting the needs of the hospital.
• Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
• Ensure policy/procedure compliance and adherence to standards (e.g., JCAHO, DHS, Medicare, Medicaid).

Job Overview

This is work of a supervisory nature in directing physical plant operation and maintenance programs of considerable variety at a large state institution. Responsibilities include coordinating building, grounds, mechanical systems and motor vehicle operations and maintenance programs and managing a large workforce of trades and plant operation personnel.

Core Responsibilities

• Ensures that employees are following necessary policies and procedures in order to ensure operations conform to applicable standards such as those established by JCAHO, DHS, Medicare and Medicaid.
• Respond to after-hours’ emergency calls as needed.
• Maintain availability to report to DDPC during emergency situations.
• Directs and oversees grounds maintenance including snow removal and transport operations in order to provide a safe environment and meet institutional transportation requirements.
• Directs, monitors, and inspects operation and maintenance of heating, water treatment, life safety systems, door access systems, and sewerage disposal plants in order to ensure adherence to operation, maintenance, and repair standards.
• Prepares plans and specifications for minor work and schedules maintenance, repairs, and alteration projects in order to meet institutional needs and maintain physical plant.
• Coordinates with all hospital departments to ensure the surveillance system is meeting the needs of the hospital.

Minimum Qualifications

• Five (5) years’ experience in managing the maintenance and repair of a physical plant to include experience in the building and mechanical trades and/or the operation and maintenance of high-pressure steam heating plants.
• Preference will be given to a candidate with a Boilers Engineer’s License and/or those candidates with prior managerial experience.
