Job summary

Washington State Office of the Attorney General is seeking an experienced Deputy Solicitor General to lead, coordinate, and support affirmative litigation for Washington State. The role focuses on challenging federal actions and guiding litigation strategy across state agencies.

The Deputy SG will oversee litigation teams, handle select state and federal court briefs, and advise on amicus briefs, opinions, and ballot materials, while mentoring colleagues in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Significant civil litigation experience in federal courts with focus on constitutional litigation or Administrative Procedure Act at trial and appellate levels.
• Excellent analytical, brief writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Experience managing litigation teams and collaborating in a team-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coordinate, and support affirmative litigation on behalf of Washington State.
• Take on leadership roles in high-stakes federal actions and state coalition litigation.
