Job summary

Butte County Sheriff’s Office offers opportunities for Deputy Sheriff candidates to perform a wide range of peace officer duties, including law enforcement, investigations, court security, and community safety. The role emphasizes independence, judgment, and collaboration with sergeants and other sworn personnel to serve the community.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of law enforcement principles and procedures.
• Familiarity with state/federal laws relevant to Sheriff’s Office operations.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas to protect life and property and deter crime.
• Responds to suspicious activities and calls for service.
• Enforces laws, issues warnings, pursues suspects and requests assistance as needed.
• Investigates juvenile and adult criminal activity and incidents as assigned.
• Coordinates crime scene control, interviews, evidence handling and documentation.
• Maintains order at public gatherings and during conflicts; serves as bailiff or court security.
• Provides emergency aid and information to the public; supports other agencies as required.
• Contributes to special projects including drug enforcement, SAR and K-9 activities.
