Job summary

Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff seeks motivated individuals for Deputy Sheriff–Recruit. No prior law enforcement experience required; you will attend a POST-approved academy for 26 weeks of instruction and fitness training, then be sworn as a Peace Officer and promoted to Deputy Sheriff.

Graduates may join the Patrol Division or Custody Services Bureau. After graduation, the Deputy Sheriff pay range is $107,773.63–$137,549.50 (2024-2025), with a 20% pay increase over four years.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.
• High school diploma, GED, or higher education equivalent obtained in the U.S.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Must be 21 years of age at appointment.
• Vision: 20/20 uncorrected per eye; 20/30 with correction.
• Hearing: no loss greater than 25 dB in specified frequencies.
• A thorough background investigation including polygraph, medical, and psych testing.

Responsibilities

• Attend the POST-certified academy (26 weeks) to become a Peace Officer.
• Graduate and be sworn in as Deputy Sheriff after academy completion.
• Possible assignments to Patrol Division or Custody Services Bureau.
• Pursue additional specialized assignments as opportunities arise.
