Job summary

Cameron County seeks a Deputy Sheriff to perform law enforcement duties across the county, patrolling areas, protecting lives and property, and enforcing applicable laws. The role includes maintaining records, processing warrants, and coordinating inmate transport as needed.

Required qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED and TCOLE certification, with at least one year of related experience in law enforcement or safety support. A one-year Civil Service probation applies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by one year of Deputy law enforcement experience in public relations.
• Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) certification is required.
• Equivalent education, training, or experience may be accepted to provide the requisite knowledge and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Patrols the county and enforces state, county and federal law to protect life and property.
• Inspects staff paperwork, daily activity logs and incident reports; assists with inspections.
• Arrests defendants and transports inmates to jails; coordinates extradition as needed.
• Interacts with citizens and agencies; maintains records and produces accurate reports.
• Serves as liaison and explains policies and procedures between supervisors, vendors, and departments.
