Job summary

Ventura County Sheriff's Office invites qualified peace officers to apply for Deputy Sheriff. The role starts in custody with a multi-year assignment before transitioning to patrol, including a five-month Field Training Program at one of six stations.

Applicants must meet minimum education requirements (high school/GED/HSPE or higher), comply with POST guidelines, be at least 21, and be eligible to work in the United States.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, HSPE or higher required.
• POST guidelines compliance and eligibility.
• At least 21 years old and legally eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Custody: acts as jailer, supervises inmate housing, escorts and transports inmates.
• Custody: books, searches, releases inmates; logs visitors; maintains records.
• Custody: performs related duties as required.
• Patrol: receives complaints, issues citations, makes arrests, investigates crimes.
• Patrol: appears in court, serves warrants, and uses intelligence-led policing.
• Patrol: supports community policing and problem-solving; performs related duties.
