Job summary

Ozaukee County is seeking a Deputy Sheriff-Jailer in Port Washington, WI to perform booking, fingerprinting, inmate supervision, and court security duties within the jail division. This full-time sworn role requires discretion, accuracy, and the ability to act independently as needed.

Lateral transfers are welcome; candidates must meet education and citizenship requirements, hold a valid driver’s license, and be able to obtain jail officer certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 60 college credits within 5 years.
• U.S. Citizen; minimum age 21.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• Ability to possess a firearm.
• No felony convictions; no domestic abuse convictions.
• Good verbal and written skills.
• Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems.
• Ability to obtain and retain jail officer certification.
• Must reside within Ozaukee County or adjacent counties within six months of probation completion.

Responsibilities

• Assign prisoners to specific cells and monitor security.
• Receive and release prisoners; conduct in-custody searches and booking.
• Supervise inmates and trustees; manage jail operations.
• Distribute medications as prescribed.
• Coordinate visiting times and court appearances; provide court security.
• Operate safety equipment as needed and complete special assignments.
