Job summary

Ozaukee County is seeking a Deputy Sheriff – Patrol to perform general law enforcement patrol duties including incident response, traffic control, routine patrols, crime investigations and related activities. This is a generalist role emphasizing modern law enforcement methods and independent discretion.

The position is full-time and salaried in Wisconsin. Lateral transfers will be considered for qualified candidates who meet the certification and residency requirements.

Qualifications

• Eligible for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
• Minimum of 60 college credits in addition to high school diploma or equivalent
• U.S. Citizen; minimum age 21
• Ability to possess a firearm
• No Felony convictions; No Domestic Abuse convictions
• Good verbal and written skills
• Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
• Required to reside within Ozaukee County or adjacent counties within six months of probation
• Probation period is one year

Responsibilities

• Monitor activity within assigned patrol area and take enforcement or assistance action as needed
• Self-initiate appropriate activity when not assigned tasks
• Respond to and act on specific assignments
• Document actions and follow reporting requirements
• Communicate information concerning activities and observations
• Learn and apply general law enforcement skills
