Job summary

Roanoke County is seeking Deputies to perform routine protective services in the County Jail and Courthouse, including processing inmates, conducting security checks, cell searches, reviewing mail, transporting inmates, and monitoring entry and exit.

You will maintain logs, supervise cleaning details, assist with special inmate needs, and enforce courtroom security to protect judges, staff, witnesses, and the public. Must be a U.S. citizen, 21+, with a Virginia driver's license and clean record.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Virginia driver's license with good driving record.
• Some experience in public and personal contact work preferably related to law enforcement.
• Must be a U.S. citizen aged 21 or older and pass the background check.

Responsibilities

• Process inmates into custody and supervise transport.
• Conduct security checks of inmates in assigned areas.
• Maintain logs of inmate movement.
• Review incoming and outgoing mail.
• Escort and transport prisoners and supervise court security.
• Perform interior and exterior security searches of the courthouse.
