Deputy Senate Secretary – Juneau, AK

We seeking an exceptional individual to serve as a Deputy Senate Secretary for the Alaska Legislature!

This is a fully exempt job class under AS 39.25.110(3). Deputy Senate Secretary positions provide nonpartisan administrative support to all twenty state senators and their staff. These positions are selected by the Senate Secretary in accordance with Rule 3, Uniform Rules of the Alaska State Legislature. Employees are on call seven days a week and receive neither compensatory time nor overtime pay. No offer of employment implies a commitment to continued employment.

  • Prepare and finalize the daily Senate Journal
  • Prepare and finalize Senate Journal Supplements and Joint Journal Supplements
  • Prepare and operate voting board in Senate Chamber
  • Take notes during floor session
  • Other duties may be assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • The ability to work with-in a high-pressure environment with multiple priorities, interruptions and demanding deadlines.
  • Proficient knowledge in the use of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook software within a business environment.
