Job summary

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced editor to join our Washington bureau as Deputy National Security Editor. You will guide coverage of U.S. foreign policy, defense, and geopolitics, and ensure reporting meets the highest standards.

Reporting to the National Security Editor, you will edit ambitious long-form features and manage the daily news flow with world-class reporters, coordinating across desks in Washington, New York and the World team.

Qualifications

• Elite editing skills with strong narrative structure.
• Ability to translate complex geopolitics into clear prose.
• Experience shaping national security or foreign policy coverage.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily national security coverage across the Pentagon, State Department, and intelligence community.
• Collaborate with reporters to craft must-read stories and innovative angles.
• Mentor reporters on narrative structure and investigative techniques.
• Coordinate with editors to set priorities and align global coverage.
• Champion digital storytelling formats to reach a global audience.
