Job summary

Tarrant County is seeking a Deputy Medical Examiner to assist daily operations of the Medical Examiner’s Office, including conducting examinations and autopsies, analyzing data, signing documents, and providing courtroom testimony. The role requires leadership in supervising staff and coordinating forensic activities with a strong emphasis on accuracy and compliance.

The ideal candidate will have a medical degree (MD/DO), board certification in forensic pathology within two years of hire, and

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited medical college or university with a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree.
• Certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology preferred on hire.
• Certification by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Forensic Pathology required within two years of hire.
• Must be eligible for and obtain a Texas medical license within thirty days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Directs and conducts inquests to determine cause and manner of death with oversight of staff.
• Perform external examinations, partial autopsies, and complete autopsies; collect specimens and evidentiary materials.
• Prepare written reports regarding case findings and interpret analyses; sign official documents.
• Testify as an expert forensic witness in court when required.
• Maintain relationships with agencies and departments at county, state, and federal levels.
• Coordinate educational and rotation programs for residents and students.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
