Job summary

MBTA is seeking a Deputy Director of Mechanical to assist the Director of Mechanical in planning and supervising the day-to-day and long-range mechanical functions for commuter rail and water service contractors. The role includes coordinating with contractors, managing a small professional staff, and ensuring compliance with contract requirements.

The position emphasizes mechanical services, rolling stock maintenance, and interagency collaboration to meet performance goals and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Experience with contract/vendor management in a passenger railroad environment.
• Experience with passenger train railroad operations and/or maintenance.
• Familiarity with FTA, FRA, NORAC, DPU, and NTSB policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Supervise commuter rail contractors and administrative staff.
• Plan and supervise day-to-day and long-range mechanical functions for rolling stock.
• Develop, award and manage budgets for Capital and Operating programs.
• Interface with agencies, contractors and vendors regarding rolling stock maintenance.
• Direct and assist inspections of trains, facilities and assets for compliance and safety.
• Respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis and coordinate field visits.
• Drive to work sites as needed to support operations and emergencies.
• Ensure adherence to MBTA standards, timelines, and contractual obligations.
