Job summary

The City of Phoenix is seeking an experienced leader to oversee the Inspections Division as Deputy Director. You will direct and coordinate all inspection activities to ensure compliance with city building, safety, and construction regulations, overseeing inspectors and supervisors who review plans and issue permits.

This role operates with significant independence and reports to the Assistant Development Services Director.

Qualifications

Strong leadership experience guiding teams of inspectors and supervisors.
Thorough understanding of building, safety, and construction inspection procedures.

Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate all inspection activities to ensure compliance with city codes and ordinances.
Supervise and train inspection staff, developing standards for consistency and quality.
Coordinate inspections for residential, commercial, and public buildings across projects.
Guide inspectors in resolving complex compliance issues and interpreting city regulations.
Review inspection reports and construction documents for compliance.
Collaborate with engineers, contractors, developers and city staff to resolve challenges.
Develop and update inspection policies, procedures and codes to improve service delivery.
Conduct hearings and decisions on variances, interpretations and use permits.
Represent the Inspections Division in public meetings and communications with city leadership.
Contribute to department-wide policy goals and objectives.
