Job summary

County of Ventura seeks an experienced Deputy Director of Emergency Services to plan, direct, and manage countywide emergency management programs under the Director. You will supervise staff, lead disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, and coordinate with local governments during EOC activations.

This role requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field and several years of emergency management leadership, with the ability to serve as a senior advisor and represent the agency on regional

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Homeland Security, Business Administration, or related field.
• 3+ years of progressively responsible emergency management experience with at least 2 years in operational leadership (EOC leadership, supervisor, or programmatic lead).

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage Ventura County's comprehensive emergency management program (mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery, resilience).
• Act on behalf of the Director of Emergency Services as assigned.
• Supervise staff engaged in emergency management and homeland security activities.
• Develop, implement, and maintain countywide emergency management policies, procedures, and plans.
• Coordinate Operational Area emergency management activities with local governments, agencies, and private sector partners.
• Provide guidance on emergency management laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Represent Ventura County Sheriff Emergency Services on committees and task forces.
• administer grants and related funding programs for emergency management.
• oversee emergency communications and warning systems; participate in EOC activations.
