Job description

The Office of the District Attorney, Bronx County (“BXDA”) is charged with the twin goals of ensuring public safety and striving for equal justice for the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community. By “Pursuing Justice with Integrity,” the BXDA focuses on assisting crime victims while ensuring fairness to defendants. The BXDA also aims to balance appropriate punishment with justice considerations, establishing a standard of excellence in representing the Bronx community.

The Bronx County District Attorney’s Office has an opening for a Deputy Chief Investigator in its Detective Investigators Unit. This sworn police officer position requires certification in the NYS DCJS Police registry. The Deputy Chief will assist with the administration, oversight, and operations of the investigators, supporting prosecution and investigations, and overseeing internal security under the direction of the Chief Investigator.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with administrative functions such as hiring investigators, establishing training requirements, providing performance evaluations, ensuring investigative coverage, and promoting professional growth.
  2. Supervise tactical and operational investigations, including search warrants, evidence collection, surveillance, witness interviews, arrests, and other police functions.
  3. Manage complex and lengthy investigations.
  4. Interact effectively with staff and law enforcement agencies.
  5. Maintain excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  6. Utilize computer and technical skills, access various databases, and evaluate surveillance technologies.
  7. Work on special projects as assigned.
  8. Willingness to work flexible hours.
  9. Perform other administrative duties as needed.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
  • At least 10+ years of criminal investigation experience and 10 years of supervisory experience or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with NYC and surrounding areas, police protocols, and proactive investigative initiatives.
  • Broad experience in criminal investigations and strong leadership skills.
Residency Requirement:

NYC residency generally required within 90 days of appointment. Certain city employees with 2+ years of service may reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. Discuss residency eligibility with the agency during the interview.
