Job description

Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney

The Augusta Judicial Circuit is seeking a gifted lawyer and humble leader to take on the role as Deputy Chief District Attorney – Violent Crimes Unit.

As the Deputy Chief, you will work closely with our law enforcement partners to ensure the quality of our investigations and prosecutions. You will be joining an office of 60 employees and you will play a key role in the strategic decision-making regarding the evaluation, charging, and prosecution of violent crimes in Richmond and Burke Counties.

The start date is flexible between July 6, 2026 and August 31, 2026. The salary is competitive with any salary offered in various metro areas and Atlanta.

For those career prosecutors with exemplary litigation ability, who are looking to advance their career, this position is a leadership position where strategic thinking is required, as you will lead by example, trying some of our more complex cases and provide counsel to the trial teams that report to you.

All applicants must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or with another state’s bar association that is eligible for reciprocity for admittance to the State Bar of Georgia. You must also be admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court and Georgia Court of Appeals. We prefer applicants that have at least seven (7) years of experience in trial advocacy, preferably with major felony cases and complex multi-defendant cases. Supervisory experience is also preferred.

If you believe our criminal justice system should be more fair, more effective, and more focused on the crimes that impact public safety, then please consider joining us in the Augusta Judicial Circuit.

Please contact District Attorney Jared Williams with your resume and an outline of your experiences and qualifications at jwilliams@augustaga.gov .

Preferred Qualifications: Exemplary negotiation and litigation ability is required, as you will be working to resolve, or take to trial, those complex felony cases that impact our community. Professional time management skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a curious intellect are all desired abilities.
