Job summary

Responsibilities include strategic leadership of athletics operations, budgeting, contracts, HR, sponsorships, and sport supervision, with liaison to internal and external groups and oversight of compliance, sports medicine, and performance areas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3-5 years in collegiate athletic administration.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a diverse community.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgement.
  • California driver’s license (Class C) required; valid out-of-state license allowed until appointment; obtain CA license within 10 days.

  • Align operational strategies with development goals with coaches, student-athletes, administration, and conference officials.

POSITION : Exempt (12 months), Full-time (40Hours)

SALARY RANGE: $90,000- $105,000

HIRING RANGE: Anticipated hiring range is near or at theminimum of the classification,

commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

Definition of Classification:

The Deputy Athletic Director is a senior executive administratorwho serves as second in-command to the Vice President forIntercollegiate Athletics (VPIA) at the University of Redlands.

Provides strategic leadership and planning related to all athleticsoperations, including but not limited to: internal operations,budgeting, capital planning initiatives, contract management, humanresource management, sponsorships, special events and sportsupervision.

This position will also serve as a liaison to internaland external groups including Student Life and Advancement/AlumniRelations, outside contractors and other groups.

This position willserve as the designated sport administrator for assigned athleticteams.

This position requires flexibility to work evening and weekendhours as well as the ability to travel, as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as liaison and meet regularly with key internal andexternal stakeholders.
  • Represents the department in a positive manner and effectivelyadvocates for the interests of the University and the department.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders, including coaches,student-athletes, University administration, and conferenceofficials to align operational strategies with overarchingdevelopment goals.
  • Oversees athletic sponsorships and community engagement effortsin collaboration with the University Advancement office.
  • Manages all contractual agreements with external and internalvendors, operators, visiting institutions and/or suppliers.
  • Engages in multi-year fiscal planning, assessing revenue andexpense categories in conjunction with the VPIA.
  • Manages the athletic department policies and procedures.Recommends operating guidelines or changes to policy/procedures, asneeded.
  • Supports VPIA with leadership of key strategic partnershipinitiatives, revenue generation and cross-functionalprojects.
  • Mentors coaches and supports emerging unit leaders while buildingstrong connectivity and partnership across the Universitycommunity.
  • Serves as sport administrator for assigned sports.
  • Oversight of Compliance, Sports Medicine and Sport Performanceareas.
  • Supervises, plans, directs, and assigns work of assigned staff;makes hiring and disciplinary decisions; provides feedback onperformance and approve timesheets.
  • Executes special projects, strategic planning initiatives andother duties as assigned by the VPIA.
Qualification Guidelines

Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

Experience/Training/Education:
  • Required
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3-5 years in collegiate athletic administration
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies ina diverse community.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions andjudgement.
  • A valid California Class C CA drivers’ license with a gooddriving record is required. Note: Out-of-state licenses are validuntil appointment. A valid California Class “C” driver’s licensemust be obtained within ten (10) days of appointment (in accordancewith CA Vehicle Code 12505c).
Preferred

  • Experience leading several administrative teams at one time

  • Must be able to competently interact with a culturally andethnically diverse population of students, faculty, andstaff.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Working Conditions:

Standard office setting. Duties performed are primarily in anoffice environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstationor in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assurehealth and comfort.

Physical Demands:

Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances ona regular basis; may travel to various locations to attend meetingsand conduct work; use hands and fingers to operate an electronickeyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoopor kneel or crouch to file; climb stairs; speak clearly anddistinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see toread fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voicesover telephone and in person; and lift, carry and/or move objectsweighing up to 20 pounds.

BACKGROUND CHECK:

Satisfactory completion of a backgroundcheck (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. The University will make a conditional offer ofemployment, which may be rescinded if the background check revealsdisqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that thecandidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure tosatisfactorily complete the background check may affect thecontinued employment of a current employee who was conditionallyoffered the position.

DRIVER'S LICENSE CHECK:

Possession of a valid Driver'sLicense is required for certain positions. Employees in positionsthat require a valid Driver’s License will be enrolled in theDepartment of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull NoticeProgram which confirms possession of a valid driver's license andreflects driving record.

PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMS:

For certain positionstypically in Public Safety, Facilities, Athletics and InformationTechnology Services departments, employment is contingent upon a candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the abilityto lift in excess of 50 lbs. Public Safety Officers, in addition toa pre-employment physical exam, will also be required to pass apsychological evaluation.
