Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin seeks an Equipment Engineer for Deposition and Thermal Process Development at the Microelectronics Research Center in Austin, TX. This exempt, 40-hour per week role supports deposition and thermal processes across lithography and etch integration.

Responsibilities include tool maintenance, process development, metrology integration, and user training, with emphasis on reliable equipment performance and safety compliance in a shared cleanroom environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years in semiconductor or thin-film deposition equipment.
  • Strong vacuum, gas delivery, and thermal deposition knowledge.
  • Experience with diagnostics and component-level repair.
  • Experience with thin-film metrology.
  • Experience in cleanroom/microfabrication workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain deposition toolsets to meet uptime and performance.
  • Monitor pressure, gas flow, temperature, plasma, and deposition rate.
  • Perform tool qualification, calibration, and matching.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics and root-cause analysis.
  • Coordinate with vendors on major repairs and maintenance.
  • Support development and optimization of thin-film deposition processes.
  • Utilize metrology tools to characterize films and correlate data.
  • Collaborate with researchers to align tool performance with requirements.
  • Train users and develop SOPs and maintenance documentation.
