Job summary

Metric DCX is seeking an Infrastructure Deployment Engineer to own the full lifecycle of fiber and cabling deployments in data centers. You will coordinate schedules, QA/QC contractor work, and ensure all installations meet design standards and safety codes.

The role is remote with travel across the United States, requiring ~40% travel to sites and hands-on oversight of on-site teams.

Qualifications

  • Experience with racking, stacking, and cabling infrastructure.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings (AutoCAD/Visio).
  • Comfortable with ~40% travel.

  • Coordinate deployment schedules, site access, materials, and staging with facility operations.
  • Perform multi-stage QA inspections across racks, servers, cabling and labeling to ensure design adherence and safety.

Job description

The Infrastructure Deployment Engineer (IDE) is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in fiber optics, structured cabling, and data center physical infrastructure. You will own the full lifecycle of installation projects, coordinating LVC schedules, performing QA/QC on contractor work, and ensuring all installations meet design standards, safety codes, and labeling policies.

*Please note, this is a remote with travel role, applicants can be from anywhere in the States.

Key Responsibilities
1. Project Oversight & Contractor Management
  • Act as the primary on-site technical contact for LVCs and internal teams
  • Manage deployment schedules, track milestones, and report progress
  • Coordinate site access, materials, and staging with facility operations
  • Support remote engineering teams as on-site “remote hands”
  • Conduct multi-stage QA inspections across racks, servers, cabling, and labeling
  • Ensure all installs align with BoM, design specs, and grounding standards
  • Oversee fiber testing (OTDR, OLTS, insertion/return loss) for SM/MM fiber
  • Validate copper cabling (Cat6a/Cat8) and ensure compliance across all systems
  • Manage vendor performance and SLAs
3. SME & Documentation
  • Act as SME for fiber and structured cabling best practices (BICSI)
  • Review and validate designs, rack layouts, and fiber schematics
  • Produce test reports, as-builts, and RCA documentation
  • Support training, closeout, and handover to operations
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (Engineering, IT, or related)
  • 5+ years in data center or mission-critical deployment
  • Strong hands‑on experience with fiber systems (OTDR, VFL, power meter)
  • Experience with racking, stacking, and cabling infrastructure
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings (AutoCAD/Visio)
  • Comfortable with ~40% travel
Preferred
  • BICSI RCDD or vendor certifications (Cisco, Juniper)
  • Familiarity with ITIL frameworks
